The mansion is surrounded by 1,120 acres, on which stand many historic buildings, including the original farmhouse and log kitchen used during the construction of the mansion. The grounds also include a church, slave and field quarters, gardens and the tomb of President Jackson and his wife, Rachel. Andrew Jackson's Hermitage home in Nashville Tennessee is definitely worth a trip. Enjoy a 1.5-hour guided, VIP tour through the grounds and mansion with an experienced guide and a small group of visitors, plus special access to the mansion balcony. Our nonprofit museum is dedicated to preserving, documenting and sharing the rich heritage of country music. In 1823, the Tennessee legislature elected Jackson to the United States Senate, but the following year he was an unsuccessful candidate for the presidency. Even though he won the greatest number of popular and electoral votes, he did not have a necessary majority in the Electoral College. This threw the election into the House of Representatives. The House selected John Quincy Adams as president in what Jackson considered a “corrupt bargain.” Jackson immediately resigned from the Senate to begin planning his next campaign.
The guides will tell you about the room but you have zero opportunity to actually look into the room except during the talk from a distance. The talk is the same so you get a fast rehersed talk while moving to different stations. One of my sore subjects are tours of famous people that spend more time telling you about the furniture or things than tell you about the person. I especially felt bad for two 6 years old that had nothing tailored for them on the tour and left knowing little to nothing about Jackson.
